I have very few childhood memories, but some of the few I have involve baking cookies with my mom and sisters. We didn’t bake cookies a lot; it was a fond memory of something that was special. I don’t remember what kinds we made besides my favorites: chocolate chip and what we called carrot cookies, soft buttery cookies with bits of carrot and a sweet orange icing. It’s funny how eating something from childhood can transport me back to these buried memories.
I never would have dreamed at any point that baking would be something I would do outside of baking for my family. I have considered opening a catering or a home cook business for a long time, but baking cookies wasn’t something I had considered before the last year and half. As is the case with most things in life, the path opened up in front of me in the most unexpected ways!
I attribute the “birth” of SweeTreats Co. to a friend’s post in October of 2020. She posted on a local google group that she was looking for someone to bake and decorate some sugar cookies for a baby shower she was hosting. I wasn’t going to respond at all, but I kept thinking about my favorite sugar cookie recipe. So I told her I’d be willing to bake the cookies for her, if she could find someone else to decorate the cookies (I hadn’t really done that before and wasn’t confident in my ability). She replied that she wasn’t really picky about decorating and would I be willing? And so began the beginnings of my cookie decorating research and practice. I found that I love the entire process of decorating- coming up with the designs, and then trying to create what I see in my mind.
The next year and half was full of a lot of organizing and getting all the paperwork submitted for the business license and cottage food permit, which allows me to operate SweeTreats Co. from my own kitchen.
SweeTreats Co., LLC, became a licensed business in October of 2021. The months from the officaial formation and now has been full of practicing designs, getting my website running and trying to advertise locally.
I look forward to serving you!
